The Arts

Creative learning and exploration through the arts are central to our curriculum and ethos because of the inclusive engagement it promotes in ways that are accessible to all of our children. The arts enable the children to be inspired and enjoy challenge and success in their learning.  Our children thrive and enjoy success through lively learning experiences equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design.

We have dedicated teaching time for the arts and frequently use them to support all areas of learning. We celebrate arts through the teaching and learning of a broad range of expressive activities, skills, knowledge and experiences through mediums which include all forms of art, drama, craft and design, dance and music.

Across our school we are proud to celebrate and display all of the children’s artwork.  As well as this we create a lively and engaging environment. This also provides a platform for children to share different techniques and give each other feedback. In addition, the arts form an important part of extracurricular activities and wider community involvement.  This includes clubs, activities and regular special events which seek to involve parents and carers. Our parents are always invited to support and celebrate our creative week where the children have a dedicated week to explore and develop their love of the arts.We are proud to have excellent community links at Cupernham. We enjoy developing our artistic skills with the University of Winchester art department and we also enjoy displaying our fantastic art work at the Romsey Library.

When taking part in music and drama activities the children learn to empathise, explore values, express feelings and emotions, portray ideas, communicate their thoughts and feelings, using and responding to a wide variety of media.

Through the arts we aim to enhance the children’s appreciation and understanding of different cultures and viewpoints.
