Is your child starting school in September 2027?

A warm welcome to Cupernham Infant School

Choosing the right school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make. At Cupernham Infant School, we understand how exciting — and sometimes emotional — this milestone can feel. We are proud to offer a nurturing, happy and ambitious start to school life, where every child is known, valued and supported to thrive.

Our school is a friendly infant setting for children aged 4 to 7, based in Romsey, Hampshire. We specialise in the early years of education and are passionate about giving children the strongest possible foundations for learning, friendship and confidence.

Why choose Cupernham Infant School?

At Cupernham, our vision is simple: together we care, we learn and we achieve. This shared commitment sits at the heart of school life and shapes the way we welcome children and families into our community.

  • A caring start to school: Children are supported by experienced staff who understand how to help young learners feel safe, settled and ready to learn.
  • Strong foundations in learning: We place a clear focus on early reading, phonics, communication, language, writing and mathematics so that children build confidence from the very beginning.
  • A broad and engaging curriculum: Children learn through meaningful experiences, high-quality teaching, stories, play, exploration, creativity and carefully planned opportunities to discover the world around them.
  • Positive relationships: We work closely with families because we know that children flourish when home and school work together.
  • Inclusive support for every child: We celebrate each child’s individuality and provide thoughtful support so that all children can participate, progress and feel they belong.

Our Reception year

Starting Reception is the beginning of an exciting journey. Our Reception classrooms are designed to be calm, welcoming and stimulating, giving children the confidence to explore, ask questions, make friends and develop independence.

Children learn through a balance of purposeful play, adult-led teaching and carefully planned activities. Staff get to know children quickly and use this knowledge to plan next steps that help them grow socially, emotionally and academically.

Helping children feel ready and confident

We know that every child starts school with different experiences, strengths and needs. Our transition programme helps children and families get to know us before September, with opportunities to visit, meet staff and become familiar with the routines of school life.

From the first day, we focus on building secure relationships, encouraging independence and helping children understand simple routines. This helps children feel safe, confident and ready to enjoy learning.

Care, inclusion and wellbeing

Children learn best when they feel happy, safe and understood. Our staff take time to build trusting relationships and provide the right support for each child. We work with families, outside agencies and school staff to remove barriers and help every child access the full life of the school.

Whether your child is confident and ready to run through the door, or needs a little more reassurance, we will work alongside you to make their start as positive as possible.

Applications for Year R places are made through Hampshire County Council’s coordinated admissions process: School admissions | Education and learning | Hampshire County Council Families should check Hampshire’s admissions guidance for the application timetable, eligibility information and how to apply for a Reception place for September 2027.
