Science

We encourage our children to be curious and ask questions about what they notice and we support them to develop their understanding of scientific ideas by using different types of scientific enquiry and investigation using scientific equipment to answer their own questions. The children have the opportunity to observe changes over a period of time, noticing patterns and grouping things. Where possible we encourage the children to carry out investigations to experience and observe the wonders of the world around us.

In the Foundation Stage, children are introduced to Science through Understanding of the World.

The Year 1’s and Year 2’s focus their scientific learning on plants and animals which include humans, everyday material and seasonal change where their understanding is developed through their longitudinal studies across the school year.

Our science is linked to our topics wherever possible. In Year 1 the children learn about forces when they become Superhero’s. In Year 2 the children investigate appropriate materials for Cinderella to mop up her spilt milk and identify and consider how animals adapt to living in our local environment and the African Savanna.
